Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a fab weekend. As promised, (I know, I’m a little delayed) the recap of my Firefly music festival experience continues. It’s tough to decide which day was my favorite from the whole weekend, but if I had to choose, day two would be my choice. I was wearing the perfect dress to dance around in to the tunes of Mean Lady (they went to my high school!), Bleachers, Foo Fighters and GirlTalk. We also put in a serious amount of dancing hours at the silent disco. Day two was the commencement of the dust storm that never ended in the festival grounds (keep scrolling to see my tan lines) and I continued to eat a lot of Falafel. And, I finally found a Dogfish Head beer that I actually enjoyed, the Tweason’ale. My friends and I did a good job of pacing ourselves with the beverages and we took a crucial early evening break back at our camp site to rest our dirty feet before Foo Fighters. I’m so glad we did because Dave Grohl and company KILLED IT.
I know all the popular Foo Fighter songs, but I wouldn’t have called myself a huge fan of them before the show. I now want Dave Grohl to be my best friend. They not only sounded great, but they really put on a performance. They told funny stories in between songs and really got the crowd involved. You could tell this wasn’t just another big gig for them, they really enjoyed being at Firefly. The final kicker was the encore. After Taylor Hawkins egged Dave on for five more songs backstage, they reappeared with a back drop that said “The Holy Shits” on it. Dave announced that we should pretend they were just a “bar band that played classic rock songs” and then proceeded to play “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper, “Miss You” by the Rolling Stones, “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” by Van Halen and “Under Pressure” by Queen/David Bowie. It was absolutely magical.
