This time of year I’m usually on the hunt for festive holiday outfit for the upcoming party season. In previous years, I’ve been all about the typical red and green with a dash of sparkle. This year, however, I’ve been gravitating towards more luxurious and vintage-inspired items in glam textures and unconventional holiday colors. I popped into my local Macy’s this week and their Bar III section had just what I was looking for. From little black dresses and mermaid sequin tops, to bold faux-fur outerwear and ribbed knit skirts, I was in anti-holiday outfit heaven. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bold, red holiday dress just as much as the next girl, but lately I’ve just been more inclined to pick up transitional pieces that can be worn throughout the whole year, rather than just for special occasions.
When I first laid eyes on this faux fur animal print coat I just about died. It instantly reminded me of an almost identical coat I had when I was about 10 years old. The 10 year old me cried and cried to my mother until she purchased it for me from a textbook-sized holiday catalog. (Do I sound like a brat or what?) Luckily this time around, it was a lot easier for me to purchase this coat without any tears.
Animal print is a neutral in my closet and this coat is the perfect statement piece for both the holiday and winter season. I also picked up this beautiful little black dress with a jeweled collar. I love the vintage-inspired neckline and because it’s an LBD, I’ve already thought of about five other occasions I know I’ll be able to wear it. Did I mention I liked multi-functional pieces? The best part about this dress is no necklace is required! Of course, that didn’t stop me from picking up a sparkly ear cuff and hermatite-tone statement ring. For the final touches, I opted to keep the only bit of holiday red on my lips and went a little girly on my feet with fuchsia suede heels. I think the favorite part about this look is that when I was shooting it in oh-so-picturesque Beacon Hill, an older gentlemen paused from his neighborhood stroll to tell me he loved the 40s, 60s, and 70s vibes of my outfit. Three decades in one look? I’ll take it!
Do you like to get dressed up during the holiday season or keep it casual?
