Boston in the summer is my favorite kind of Boston. I love exploring the city this time of year to revisit favorite hang out spots and restaurants, while peppering in new places like the Shinique Smith Mural on the Greenway Wall at Dewey Square Park. This mural is massive and I absolutely love all the colors that make it up. The minute I saw it I was like, “Yup, taking blog photos there ASAP”. (Yes, that is how my brain views the world a lot of the time). The summer is also my favorite time of year to get dressed up for summer nights and activities. I wore this look to dinner one night and was absolutely terrifed the entire time that I would spill something on these white culottes. They’re not the greatest for my anxiety, but I’m kind of obsessed with the culotte trend right now.
I picked up this pair at Nordstrom a few weeks back and was pleasantly surprised at how flattering they were. The waist hits just high enough so that I rock a crop top modestly, err, as modestly as a crop top gets. Culottes are perfect for a date night, work or even a wedding. I also like to paired them with dressed up flats for a more comfortable, yet polished look. A few things to keep in mind if you’re in the market for a pair of culottes:
Try before you buy. If you have the option, try on culottes before you buy them. Since they have such a boxy silhouette they’re bound to look different on you than on the model on the website or in the magazine.
Pleats are your friend. If you’re looking for more trouser-like culottes for work, definitely opt for a pair with pleats, like the ones I’m wearing!
Proportion is everything. To offset the wider pant legs, stick with sleek shoes and a fitted top to balance out your look. You can go daring in a crop top like I did, or tuck in a silk blouse for a more conservative look.
