Well everyone, it’s here. Winter finally showed up in the form of three inches of snow in Boston last night and rumor has it a storm is coming this weekend. Insert hysterically crying face. Last year, my closet was less than prepared for winter. I didn’t have a proper winter coat OR snow boots. I know, I’m crazy. I’m happy to report that I quickly learned from my mistakes, though. I decided to invest in a Canada Goose Kensington coat this year, in October to be exact. I wasn’t taking any chances. I don’t think I’ve ever been more satisfied with a clothing purchase in my entire life. This jacket is so, so warm and 110% worth the money. It’s a slim fit and a great alternative for anyone who isn’t into the puffer coat look. It’s superbly made and the hood works great for keeping rain and snow out of my face. The fur is real by the way, which I wasn’t thrilled about, but there wasn’t an option to choose faux fur. If you can deal with that, I highly recommend this coat to anyone that lives in
Sorry for the tangent, but I needed to profess my love for Canada Goose. Ok moving on… I wore this outfit on the second day of my Portland Maine trip back in November. It was pretty damp and chilly day, but it didn’t stop me from exploring the downtown area (or wearing shorts). Again, I know I sound crazy, but I actually love wearing shorts in the winter. Of course, this look isn’t the best option if there’s 50 mph winds and 10 inches of snow on the ground, but for the milder cold days, I love mixing tights with shorts. Last year I discovered fleece-lined tights and they are a godsend. When I’m wearing regular tights, I typically pair them with chunky socks knee-high socks. If you’re looking to make the most of your closet by wearing your summer clothes in the winter, I recommend giving shorts with tights a try!
On our last day of Portland exploration, we grabbed brunch at Artemisia Cafe to start off the day. If you ever go there, you have to get the huevos rancheros. Trust me on that one. Afterwards, we decided to make one last visit to the harbor and found a really awesome lock wall in the process. From there we stopped into Vena’s Fizz House, a spot we had visited the night before. Their vintage barware was absolutely drool-worthy and instantly made me wish I had a bar cart so I could justify buying a six piece martini glass set. A girl can dream. If you ever find yourself in Portland, a visit to Vena’s is a must for a craft cocktail and picking up some drinking accessories.
What do you think of my shorts in the winter look? If you think I’m cray, let me know in the comments
