Aloha again! So there was a motive behind my last post. Hawaiian prints didn’t just tickle my fancy, I am currently visiting the great Aloha state! First stop: Maui. The trip has been unreal; there’s so much scenery and culture in Maui and each day has been a new adventure. Each day also keeps getting hotter and hotter! For midday excursions or going out to dinner, I packed some key versatile pieces to keep cool. One of my favorite items I currently own is my tribal print bandeau from Free People (I picked it up at South Moon Under). The “ab fab” trend really took off this season with many designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Proenza Schouler that featured midriff-bearing looks in the Spring 2012 collections.
Not one to pass up on a new trend, I hopped on board the bandeau train and it’s been quite a stylish ride! The key to this type of look is all about proportion. Since you’ll be showing a lot of skin from the waist up, you’ll want to more coverage on the bottom. Wearing something more loose fitting or high-waisted on the bottom is my number one choice (think maxi skirts or wide leg trousers). I chose high-waisted accordion pleat shorts (also Free People and from SMU). I decided to throw on my
DIY denim vest for a little more coverage, but I would probably ditch it if I were going to a concert or a more casual nighttime affair. As for accessories, the bejeweled collar necklace is from Forever21, the mini purse is H & M and my rings are from local vendors: the shell is from a Hawaiian vendor (obvi) and the turquoise is from Delaware. What do you think of the “ab fab” trend? Have you tried it out yet this season?
