Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a fantastic Turkey day. As expected, my food baby was in full force and I spent most of the long weekend horizontal on the couch in between my quick shopping trips. I was bummed that I wasn’t in Boston for Small Business Saturday, but I then I realized how silly it was that society only promotes shopping local one day out of the year. We should feel more obligated to shop local all year long. I used to work for a small clothing boutique in Delaware when I was in college, so shopping small and local has always been the norm for me. Since moving to Boston, I’ve discovered so many wonderful boutiques and still have many more that I want to visit in the Greater Boston area. If I named them all right now I’d probably bore you all to death, so I’ll narrow it down to my favorite: SoWa Open Market. I’ve talked about SoWa on here in the past, and it is still my go-to local shopping spot, especially the indoor vintage market.
A few weeks ago SoWa Vintage Market graciously hosted a few Boston bloggers for some mimosas and day of treasure hunting. If you’re obessed with thrifting as much as I am, you better get your butt over there before all the amazing fur coats and weird vintage wall art is gone. Seriously, I felt like a kid in a candy store looking at all the odd, old stuff that the vendors were showcasing. After trying on multiple fur coats and cowboy boots, I ended up going home with a (functioning!) old school telephone and a fresh bouquet of flowers from the farmers market. If you’ve never been to SoWa, it’s one of the best local spots to find unique items and get fresh produce and edible goodies. The outdoor farmers market is only open on Sundays from May-October, but the vintage market is open year round on Sundays from 10-4! SoWa will also be holding its 11th Annual Holiday Market on Dec. 13th and 14th. Here are the details.
Shopping local is not just for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Support your local economy all year long and nab some killer, unique items in the process. Happy shopping!
