As I get closer to relaunching my new site, I’ve been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work and thinking about what new content I’ll begin to share on my little corner of the Internet. Similar to my recently revamped Site Seeing column, I’m bringing back an oldie but goodie from my blogging past: Current Obsession. I decided to change the name of this column because the word obsession is just so overused these days, and it just felt inauthentic to be obsessed with so many things all of the time. Enter: Latest Attraction. This will be an ongoing column featuring anything that tickles my fancy at a given time: micro trends, major trends, cool indie brands, new designer collections and the like. I may even start to feature some foodie attractions if I get hungry enough. The possibilities are endless! Now, onto the my latest attractions…
With the unofficial start of summer underway, I’ve been thinking a lot about what seasonal staples I’ll need for the upcoming months. Apparel is a pretty smooth transition for me, but accessories are definitely a category that require some extra thinking. From spontaneous weekend getaways to protecting your skin from the intense rays, summer accessories have to put in a lot of work! I’ve rounded up a few categories that I’ll definitely be expanding in my closet as we sail into warmer temps!
Tech: Much like my hair and clothing, each new season I like to switch up my camera case for a little mini refresh. I’m really loving anything with a palm print right now, so needless to say it was love at first sight when I found this palm print phone case from Sonix. I’ve also been dying to get my hands on a Polaroid camera for the summer. How fun is the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Polaroid Camera in yellow?! I’m planning to start of photography series where I only shoot with a Polaroid on the weekends…and then probably Instagram my Polaroids 
Beverages: Because your beer needs to look cute, too! These colorful drink sleeves from ban.do are ready to parrrrrtaayyyy. I’m also loving this metal water bottle holder from Free People. Perfect for music festivals and way more attractive than a sports water bottle.
Face: My most important summer accessory? Sunscreen! I just received First Aid Beauty’s new Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer and it is divine. It doesn’t clog my pores or make my skin feel greasy. #winning Speaking of sun protection, I always pick up a few pairs of extra bold of sunnies to protect my eye area from the sun, while simultaneously trying to pull off retro beach glam vibes. I also love to go bolder with my earrings in the summer, since I wear my hair up a lot. Typically, I go for a dramatic dangling pair, but lately I’ve been really drawn to ear crawlers. I’m loving this pair from Noir jewelry and these similar ear crawler styles.
Bags: In my opinion, there are three essential bags everyone needs for summer: the beach bag, the weekender bag, and the statement bag. The reasoning behind the beach bag is pretty obvious. I love this clear bag so there’s need to rummage around looking for stuff and inevitably end up with tons of sand in your bag. After beach hours, I like to quickly transition to my nighttime look with a statement bag, like this Santi beaded clutch or these similar options.
Fabric: Ok, I’ll admit it. This is a bit of a stretch being deemed an accessory category, but just roll with me. First up: leggings. I like to keep an extra pair at my desk for the days when you walk into the office and it’s practically winter in there. I love the cotton ones from American Apparel in neutral colors such as grey, black or brown leggings as well as these options. Another item I also like to keep at my desk is a poncho or blanket scarf. These are perfect to throw on for unexpected chilly temps and great during the day as a beach cover-up or head wrap. Love me some multi-functional pieces! If putting a scarf on your head isn’t really your style, go for a fun headband. They’re everywhere and come in every color or print you can imagine.
